Why I Love the Gold Coast Titans

Go the Titans!

OK – I’m English and I live in Perth – around 4000 KM’s away from the Gold Coast – but I love the Titans and I’ll tell you why!

1. In Australia You’ve Got to Have a Team

Sport is a big, big part of Australian life and it’s “normal” to have a team to support. Apart from the entertainment value it gives you something to talk about, its easier to socialize – easier to “fit-in”.

2. They are not Local but its Sentimental…

I used to watch a lot of Rugby League back in England but I never really “adopted” a club in Australia because Perth has no local team. There wasn’t a team to “connect” to. When I went over to the Gold Coast to get married, love was in the air and the Titans merchandise was all around – I bought a T Shirt as a souvenir and I was hooked…

Fitting in with the Gold Coast Lifestyle...

3. They are the New Boys

Titans only formed in 2007 and they are the newest team in the NRL – so I don’t feel bad about not having supported them for the last 80 years!

4. They Play Some Great Footy

Titans play an exciting style of rugby, including a lot of “high risk” plays that involve their speedy wingers. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t. With the Titans, more than any other team in the NRL, you are never sure what’s going to happen next…

5. They Have Preston Campbell

Presto!

I’ve watched Rugby League for 25 years and “Presto” is pound for pound the toughest and bravest competitor I have ever seen. For a start, he is only 165 cm tall (or 5 foot 5 in the old money ) – I’m not saying he is small but you can see his legs in his passport photo! Despite that, no-one jumps higher, tackles harder or runs faster than Preston. He is also a tireless worker for Aboriginal communities and the inspiration behind the “Indigenous All-Stars” team.  A top bloke.

So there you go – get yourself a team and back the Titans

    Nah mate!

You should back the Might Bunnies! Remember that the Rabbitohs are the only NRL team that bothers to play any games in Perth.

Preston Campbell is an awesome player but.

      Welcome Westy Rabbitoh!

Mate, you make a good point. The Rabbits deserve some praise for keeping NRL on the radar in Perth (and I have been to see them this year and last). I also have a soft spot for them because fellow Yorkshireman Sam Burgess plays for them – but I’m still sticking with the Titans!

      Keep loving your league…
