Ken Bates and his Slow Arousal
In one of the most disturbing things ever written about sport, Leeds United chairman Ken Bates has compared his rebuilding of the club to sex. In his program notes, the 79 year old Captain Birdseye lookalike wrote:
“The rebuilding of Leeds United is a bit like sex. In an age of instant gratification, Leeds United is having a long, drawn-out affair with plenty of foreplay and slow arousal.”
Which is enough to put you off Leeds, sex and fish fingers (in that order).
The rest of his article was devoted to calling protesting Leeds fans “morons”.
“World’s Frenchest Man” found living in Wakefield
Experts have identified Wakefield Wildcats’ hooker Julien Rinaldi as the “World’s Frenchest Man”.
He is estimated to be in the region of four times Frencher than Eric Cantona.
Rinaldi is thought to have come to Wakefield due to a misunderstanding based around the club’s shirt sponsor.
Further details can be found at the Wildcats revamped webite.
The end of King Lockyer’s rain
Just got back from a rain-lashed NIB Stadium in Perth where South Sydney Rabbitohs edged out Darren Lockyer’s Brisbane Broncos 16 – 12. The Rabbits played the conditions perfectly and Sandow’s kick into the duck-pond like in-goal area and Rhys Wessers flamboyant dive onto it will live long in the memory. A few points I’d like to make… Continue reading 'The end of King Lockyer’s rain'»
Len Martin – the Australian we all knew
It’s my belief that progress always comes at a cost and when you gain something you usually end up losing something along the way. Today, for instance, we have far more TV channels and more choice than I ever could have dreamed of when I was growing up with 3 channels on the box (this was before “Channel 4″ was launched on UK TV). This undoubtedly “a good thing” and I’m sure no-one wants to go back to a choice of three stations and no programs after midnight. However, a feature of life back then was that certain TV shows were basically watched by everyone (and people were aware of them even if they didn’t watch them regularly). When I was at High School, absolutely everyone watched Top of the Pops on a Thursday night – you could count on it. It would be TOTP or something unbearable like Emmerdale Farm !

FIFA sucks and this time the English have got it right
Like a lot of people, I have long suspected that FIFA is a corrupt and self-serving organisation, full of mediocrities who have got used to the “Five Star” lifestyle it thinks it is entitled to. Lately the corruption scandals have been coming thick and fast, culminating in the now near certainty that Qatar “bought” the right to host the Football World Cup in 2022.

Jenna Randall’s smile
Photography is a hobby of mine but I am mostly into photographing landscapes, buildings and things. People, in my opinion, are nothing but trouble! My wife is the opposite and loves to photograph people, particularly in emotional situations like weddings. I would be more inclined to agree if there were more smiles like this around the place. This is the UK’s olympic synchronised swimmer, Jenna Randall. Other than it being from the linked swimming website I don’t know who took the photo so I can’t credit them but it is a lovely shot.
Have the Titans turned the corner?
No doubt that the Titans have been shocking so far this season but maybe they turned the corner today at Skilled Park. Today’s game against the Roosters was pretty much a “must win” encounter for both teams but, after a truly awful start, the Gold Coast toughed it out and pulled off a gutsy win. For me it was their young front rower Ryan James who turned the tide with his strong running and aggressive defense. This guy plays like he means it and seems to be improving with every game. The Titans have two more home games coming up and, if they get something out of those two, their season could really be on the up.
