I have been writing a post telling the story of how I emigrated to Australia (and what happened next). It was getting absurdly long so, in the meantime, here is my story in 20 bullet points!

• Up to the year 2000 – living in the UK and no interest in Australia
• 2000 – My partner gets breast cancer whilst 8 months pregnant.
• 2000 – Whole year taken up with treatments and new baby stuff.
• 2001 – We get married and honeymoon in Perth and Sydney.
• 2001 – Think about emigrating for a couple of years…
• 2002 – Apply for Spouse Visa, get it and emigrate to Perth
• 2002/3 – Rough 6 months in Perth, jobs & finances a problem.
• 2002/3 – Underwhelmed by Perth. Agree to return to UK in 2004.
• 2003/4 – Buy a house & get a job but marriage problems looming.
• 2004 – Visit UK but now there is no agreement to return.
• 2005 – Black days. Marriage over. No return to UK.
• 2006 – I move out. Custody and Divorce arranged.
• 2006 –Start life again as single Dad in Australia. What the?
• 2006 – Start a relationship with someone new (she’s Australian).
• 2007 – Have a great holiday to UK with new partner and my son.
• 2008 – Starting to enjoy life again! Australia OK after all!
• 2009 – Get married on a beach on the Gold Coast. Happy at last.
• 2009 – Me and my son have a surprise holiday to UK to see Dad.
• 2010 – Some previous talk of returning to UK comes to nothing.
• 2010 – Living a happy life with wife and son.
