Look – will somebody just run the bloody country ?
A week and a half after the Australian Election and we’ve STILL got no government! After an incredibly slow election count and now interminable recounts and scrutiny of the convoluted “preferences” system neither party has managed to achieve the magic number (76) to command any kind of a working majority. After all this faffing around Australians can fairly ask “what’s next?”
OK – I admit that my motivation in writing this post was at least, in part, so I could use this truly sublime image…but the point remains. Neither party can command a majority and are frantically courting any ragtag and bobtail independent MP who can help them get over the threshold. As neither of the parties are keen to hold another election (and there doesn’t seem to be any enthusiasm amongst the electorate), expect to see a variety of multi-million dollar hospitals and hydro-electric dams turning up in unexpected places soon…
